Imagine living in a city blessed with 23 waterfalls. Yes, there is
such a city, it’s called Iligan City. Located in the Province of Lanao del
Norte, a beautiful province south of The Philippines, Iligan City is sometimes
called the City of Majestic Waterfalls because of the numerous waterfalls
situated in the area. To be precise, there are twenty three (23) waterfalls in
Iligan City. These are:
- Maria Cristina Falls
- Tinago Falls
- Limunsudan Falls
- Guimbalolan Falls
- Kamadahan Falls
- Pindarangahan Falls
- Gata Falls
- Kibalang Falls
- Rogongon Falls
- Mimbalut Falls
- Dalipuga Falls
- Dodiongan Falls
- Kalubihon Falls
- Langilanon Falls
- Hindang Falls
- Pampam Falls
- Languyon Falls
- Linanot Falls
- Malinao Falls
- Bridal Veil Falls
- Abaga Falls
- Maligang Falls
- Malapacan Falls
If we will rank
these waterfalls based on popularity, the MARIA CRISTINA FALLS
will be the first in the list. The said waterfall is Iligan’s greatest
heritage, the landmark of Iligan City. Soaring at 320 feet, the Maria Cristina
Falls is the city’s main source of industrial power .
Another famous waterfall is the LIMUNSUDAN FALLS which is said to be the highest waterfalls in
the Philippines with a height of 870 feet. It is 35 km away from the city
proper and it is close to the eastern boundaries of Bukidnon, Iligan, and Lanao
del Sur. For you to reach the said waterfalls, you need to trek for two (2)
days form Barangay Rogongon, Iligan City.

HINDANG
FALLS, situated 20 kilometers from the city proper is another favorite
tourist destination in Iligan. With a height of 40 feet, this two-tiered waterfall
has a lagoon that is ideal for swimming.
Another attraction close to the falls is the Hindang Caves which consist
of 6-8 cave clusters that have narrow entrances with long and very deep
chambers.
MIMBALUT FALLS is approximately 90 feet high and
has a diameter of 18 ft. Mimbalut is just a few kilometers from the city proper
and can be an enjoyable place for families and barkadas. The area has tables
and benches suitable for picnics or simply just a place to hang-out with nature
or bond with your friends.
Another known waterfall s is the TINAGO FALLS. The name “Tinago” was derived from a Filipino term
meaning "hidden", since the falls is hidden in a deep ravine. Those
who want to enjoy the waters of Tinago Falls need to trek approximately 500
descending steps called the winding staircase.
Under the falls is a small cave where visitors can enter and heed the
gushing waters of Tinago.
These are just five of Iligan’s majestic waterfalls; the
remaining waterfalls are just waiting to be rediscovered.
